Kavaratti
is the administrative capital of the Lakshadweep
islands. The swaying coconut canopies invite you
for the time of your life. While at Kavaratti
do not miss out on the Urja mosque that happens
to be one of the most beautiful mosques amongst
the 52 mosques in Kavaratti. The ornate ceiling
of the mosque has been carved out from a single
piece of driftwood. The other must visit at Kavaratti
is the Aquarium that will captivate you with the
variety of colorful fish and corals. Then there
is the Lakshadweep Museum that is home to several
artifacts.Kavaratti : The headquarter of the Administration,
Kavaratti is beautiful calm lagoon and forms an
ideal spot for water sports, swimming and basking
on warm sandy beaches. The Ajara and Jamnath mosques
(of the 52 on the island) have the best wood carving

and the former has a particularly
good ceiling carved out of driftwood; a well within is
believed to have medicinal water.Marine life exhibits
can be seen at the new marine aquarium. Kayaks and sailing
yatch are available on hire and one can also enjoy viewing
the exotic marine life through glass bottom boats.
The administrative capital of the Lakshadweep Islands,
Kavaratti is the most developed of the islands with the
highest percentage of non-islanders as residents. Fifty
two mosques are spread out over the island, the most beautiful
being the Ujra mosque. A well, within its precincts, is
believed to contain water of curative powers. The Ujra
mosque has an ornately carved ceiling, said to have been
carved from a piece of driftwood. Kavaratti also has an
aquarium with several colorful species of fish.
There are glass bottom boats for viewing marine life and
an array of remarkable coral formations that provides
a background to the lagoons and the islands within them.
Some Water Sports like Kayaking Canoeing and Snorkeling
are available for tourists.
